Re: Repost from parenting....
Chelle I have that but my whole stomach tightens and feels like someone is pushing down on my stomach. I was getting them from 15-50 seconds and anywhere from 3 mins to 19 mins apart - b/c I have excess fluid they made me go to L&D to monitor me - I was told by the drs that I would know the difference when they were painful. If they aren't really painful they are probably either pre labor or BH.
Have they stopped or gotten stronger?

I have heard quite a few times, moms or dr./health staff saying... YOU WILL KNOW.
A former co-worker of mine gave birth last month. She had had contractions and DID NOT KNOW IT. Her water broke and when she went to the hospital they asked her how long she had had the contractions. She said "what contractions?". She was 6 cm dilated and the contractions were showing on the monitor. She thought she had VERY mild tighness. That's it!

See that is what my fear is - esp since I have the tightening all day long on and off - and on Tuesday I was 1cm dialated and 50% effaced. I also am going to Columbia not locally. I told them I didn't want to be delivering on the cross bronx...

I'm telling you all now, I was in full-force, hardcore labor for about an hour or more before I realized I was...
I was 1 week early, thought for sure my first would be LATE.
It wasn't until I started bleeding and lost my mucus plug that I realized it was labor...this with contractions 2 min. apart! (They started at 5) And they hurt...but I have a weak stomach so I thought it was gas or diarrhea coming on!
All week I've been battling "false" labor contractions (they don't get stronger or closer together), I'm 3cm dilated and according to the NST monitor, having REAL contractions, but not feeling them.
I am living proof that you can be in labor and NOT know it. You might be embarrassed later, but if any of you aren't certain, call or go to the dr! I barely made it to the hospital the first time (very rapid labor)!
ETA- My "real" contractions the first time around felt like menstrual cramps and attacked my belly ONLY. I've read a lot recently that says they have to start in or originate from your back...NOT TRUE. My tummy also hardened and got stiff. A little freaky side note: I went into labor and had my first contraction as her head moved into the birth canal...I actually felt her shift down. My false labor this week has involved my tummy tightening A LOT as well, the "pain" however isn't quite as I remembered it, dull and annoying instead of "painful."

Re: Repost from parenting....
Well! I'm still here! I was having contractions all night long evefry 20 minutes. They would wake me up and last about 1 minute. They've stopped this morning.
They definitely felt like REALLY BAD menstrual cramps. Things got really tight and it was only on the lower part of my belly. I called my sister becasue I have NO idea what to expect and she said that it's "the beginning". To get rest because it's coming. She had the same feeling with one of my nephews.
I expected them to shoot throughout my belly, but like with birth, I guess everyone's different.
I was PRAYING that every time I went to the bathroom my water would break so I would know for sure!!
I have a feeling that I'll be one of those woman in full blown labor and have NO CLUE!! *************************** From Snuggle: ETA- My "real" contractions the first time around felt like menstrual cramps and attacked my belly ONLY. This feels like my exdact experience!!! But they've stopped as of now.

Re: Repost from parenting....(a little update at bottom)
OK... so you are still here. Take it easy! Rest as much as possible!
That's I understand will happen. There are the "book" type contractions and then there is everything else. We don't know how this is going to come for us. Anything is possible!!! I guess when the baby comes out we know it was real labor!
