repost from parenting...gift for new baby

My friend just called me, her sister went into labor this morning with her first baby! I am so happy for them, they have been trying for years to get pregnant. Anyway, I am extremely close to her, she is one of my best friends, and I am close to her parents too. I was never really close to her sister though, as a matter of fact I have only met her a handful of times. So, my question is, should I get a gift for the parents, like an outfit for the baby, OR should I get a gift for my friend, like a onesie and a bib that says I Love My Aunt, or one of those other aunt sayings. This is her first niece/nephew so she is SO excited, and I thought that would be a cute thing to do for her. What do you think?

I would buy a gift for the baby. You could include a bib that says, "I love my Aunt". That could be sweet.
