repost from Pregnancy-Boy/Girl in same room
How long can you keep a boy/girl in one room?
When we bought our house, I was pregnant with Juliette. We bought a 2 bedroom house with a full finished basement-for my FIL. 1) I only wanted one though my DH wanted three... 2) If we were going for 2, we would plan to move before then.
The house itself has 7 rooms, but it is very strange because we do have a thrid bedroom, only accessible from the staircase in Juliette's room. This sucks bc it is the entire length of the house and it has a full bath up there. So we are trying to decide what to do.
If this one is a girl-we have no problem. We can put the two in one room and continue using the upstairs as a playroom.
If it's a boy, we may stick Juliette upstairs and have to have her trek through the babies room to get there, but atleast she will have some privacy. THen I was thinking about it, when I lived in Brooklyn, we had railroad rooms and we had no problem walking through someone elses room to get to my room.
Our last choice is to give Juliette our room, take the upstairs and walk through the babies room.
We have been looking to move but the interest rates are alot higher than what we are currently paying. I keep kicking myself bc we bought a two bedroom! And I want to kick the architect that designed it!
Thoughts?

Re: repost from Pregnancy-Boy/Girl in same room
My two share a room. There was just an article about this in one of the parenting magazines. They said it's fine until around 4/6. I think by 4, they advise to dress separately and have privacy. By 5 or 6 they should be separated.
I intend on keeping mine together until at least next year (Gabriella will be 4 next year) when we can see where we are at with moving. At that point, if we aren't even close, I will give the kids the two upstairs bedrooms and we will move to the bedroom downstairs.
BTW, mine are 18 months apart and LOVE sharing a room.

Thank you so much!!! We wanted to move before the baby, but honestly, I can't see buying a house with a higher interest rate if we can get away with sharing a room.

Re: repost from Pregnancy-Boy/Girl in same room
My thoughts are this..as babies I would keep them together. I would not want an infant or very young child on a different floor from us. Can you extend your own home to add a bedroom? That maybe cheaper than moving. OR can you make the upstairs into 2 bedrooms or even 3 and move all the bedrooms upstairs? I think you are totally fine for a few years though.

It's one large room with no space to split them unless we do railroad. Jules will be two and a half when this one arrives, and hopefully the interest will go downa bit so we can lock in and look more seriously.
