Went out to eat tonight in the city. Waitress brings silverware to the table and sets it in front of us by holding the food-side and setting it down.
I'm germphobic and never saw anyone do that. Ever. She seemed new to waitressing! I said (kind of half joking so she wouldn't feel so horrible) when you place silverware on the table you don't touch the side people eat from, please get us new silverware. She seemed to be puzzled by my complaint but still got us new silverware.
Then i'm imagining what theyre doing to our food after I said that.
Wwyd? Would you have said anything?

Re: restaurant wwyd-silverware
i wouldnt have said anything because im too shy but i hate that too and have had more than 1 waitress do this. i prefer when they are prewrapped in the napkins (although u never know how they were touched then either). im a freak about these things so people usually just tell me to relax and that you cant avoid stuff like that... its hard.

I probably wouldn't have said anything and just would have wiped it down with a napkin and some water.

What's what I would do as well. Not a big fan of sneezes (or worse) in my food.

I don't know if I would've said anything. Yes, she was wrong, but I think there are nicer ways to handle it.
You could always just ask for new silverware when your food comes.

I wouldn't have said anything, even though it's gross. I'd wipe it down myself. It's also pretty (very) likely that your silverware was touched by someone else's hands on the eating side. You just don't see it! . From when it comes out of the dishwasher, to the silverware bins, to the bus boy, and then the waiters or waitresses.

Stuff like that doesn't bother me. But I also have been known to eat off the floor and my house is a pigsty. So you can't go by me.

I would have asked for new silverware when the food came. It really bugs me when someone touched the silverware like that

This thread reminds me of that "study" where they found a woman's bag/pocketbook is dirtier than a dirty toilet, yet we still set it down close by to where we are doing "sanitary" activities most of the time.

Yeah, I worked in the restaurant/food industry for 10 years. A lot worse things can happen.

I probably wouldn't have even noticed. But, if I did, I would've just wiped it down myself with some water.

Same here, but I would think that it would be common sense not to hold it by the side you eat off of.

Re: restaurant wwyd-silverware
I wouldn't have said anything. I would have "accidently" dropped it and asked for new ones. but if it was all of them, then yeah i probably would have asked for enw ones. maybe from the busser or someone else. im chicken like that - well it depends on my mood.
Who carries silverware like that?? Even most children know not to carry it that way.
