Results from the allergist are in - unbelievable (and LONG)!!!
So if you recall DS the last month or two DS had such severe allergies that his eyes were swollen shut and he was one giant itchy hive. We took him to the pedi who swore it was seasonal allergies, although I wasnt fully convinced bc of the severity of them. So they put DS on Singulair, Benadryl as needed and Zyrtec.
As I said - I wasnt entirely convinced, so we rehomed our cat in the process and had sears come and clean the carpets, furniture, we washed down the walls, got all new bedding in the entire house, new pillows to try to rid the house of the dander.
I took him back to the pedi at least 10 times in the past 2 months bc he was THAT bad. Last week, they finally sent him for allergy testing. They were convinced though that it was nothing more than seasonal.
Well, results are in and it was the cat! The pedi yesterday even said to me "his dander levels" are only slightly increased so I doubt its the cat, we just dont know". But the allergist today said its definitely the cat and we have to realize they are less elevated now bc we had rehomed the cat and cleaned the house from top to bottom best we could. She said Im sure if they had tested him a month ago his levels would have been through the roof. She said to take him off the Singulair bc he doesnt need to be on it at all, so now I feel like we've been overmedicating our son for no reason. She said just the Zyrtec should be enough. We were also told by our pedi to keep the windows shut and keep him indoors, but the allergist today said that is the worst thing we could be doing for him. He needs to air out from being in the house with the dander. She also said get an air purifier for the house.
PLUS - and this is the kicker - all his reoccurring ear infections and the watery eyes he has had since he was a newborn (which the Drs told us was a clogged tear duct which he would have to have surgically cleared) were most likely from the cat allergy. He had a hacking cough for well over a month I kept bringing him to the pedi for and they said it was just nasal drip from a cold causing it.....nope...cat allergy. He was constantly sick with what we thought were colds from like Novemeber on...nope cat allergy.
The allergist is sending my pedi her report, so I plan on sitting down with them and getting to the bottom of why they kept writing it off as colds when I kept bringing him in, and bringing him in and bringing him in. I had asked in the past if it could be the cat and they said no, and then this recent bout the swore was outdoor allergies and Ive kept him indoors the ENTIRE spring!!!!!! It wasnt until I had finally had enough and requested he be tested for allergies that we got answers.
Im not mad at our pedi, they are normally very good, and I can see how all the symptoms individually can be written off as normal childhood illnesses, but I think the frequency of bringing him in should have been a red flag somewhere along the line. All this time......Im just so glad we finally have answers! Thanks for making it this far if you are still reading.

Wow! Too bad you had to rehome your cat, but it must be a big relief to finally know what the problem is.

Thanks ladies!
The worst part for me, is imagine if I had him put under and had his ducts surgically cleared, it wouldnt have helped at all anyway. Plus he has been on SO many different antibiotics...i just feel like he was overmedicated this entire time.

I am happy for you that you finally have some answers. Sometimes you have to be more aggressive with these doctors...
Does the allergy testing hurt? We are having our 20 month old son tested next month. He keeps getting ear infections and "colds" and just want to make sure that its not allergies.
