Retroesophageal right subclavian artery
Does anyone have any experience with this or know anyone with this heart defect?
I was having chest pains, my dr. thought it was reflux, I went for an esophagram & they see something pressing in on my esophagus. They think I have an aberrant artery pressing on my esophagus, that I was born with & never knew about.
So I need an MRI of my chest to see how badly the artery is constricting my esophagus & air passages & if it's what's causing my pain
Of course I googled it & while it sounds like it's kinda common (1 in about 200 people), but it also sounds like it could be dangerous & linked with other heart problems.
If you know someone who had arteries in the wrong place, did they need to have it corrected with surgery? Did it cause any other problems for them? The idea of my blood vessels rubbing against other organs in my chest makes me nervous. I have a good doctor who's helping me a lot (actually he's a pediatric heart surgeon, since it's a congenital defect), but I'm just trying to see if anyone else has heard of this or dealt with it? I'm hoping it turns out to be no big deal.
