Returning a leased car with bumps and bruises
I am returning my lease this weekend and buying another car with them. The dealership has already made it clear that they will go over the car with a fine tooth comb. I have a puncture in the back bumper, and a small dent in the front.
Should I take a chance and see what they charge me or take it to an auto body shop before returning it.
Thanks.

Re: Returning a leased car with bumps and bruises
From my expereince as long as it's not a HUGE dent or scratch, it's not worth it to go to a body shop. Especially if you are leasing another car from the same dealer, they are likely to look the other way. Most of the time they chalk things like that up to normal wear and tear and don't even charge you for it.

Well the bumper they are going to nail you for, but the dent will probably be looked over. I would go for a pre inspection and ask them before hand to look over the car and let you know what needs to be fixed and then do it on your own. My DH is in the lease return business and that is what he usually tells friends and then he can do the work for them, because the dealerships hire him to do it anyway. He does this for a lot of the bigger dealerships on the south shore.

This is my third car with them. They looked the other way when I leased this current car, and thats why I never got this bumper fixed, I was hoping they would do it again. I was told they dont do that anymore.

What kind of car is it, alot of the dealerships are getting picky about their lease returns because sales have been slow. So it is another way to make some money.

I know w/ my Nissan as long as I re-leased another car they waved the first $500 worth of damage. I didn't have much more than that so I just payed the difference.

Re: Returning a leased car with bumps and bruises
i just had my nissan inspected for any damage i might owe... they came to me it was great. i have a few scratches and dings but they said that they arent charging me, I just have to replace the windshield because i have to deep dings from flying rocks. but that is covered by my insurance.
i dont have to get it fixed through them that is the great thing about this. i can get it fixed on my own..
i was going to replace the tired because they are balding but then decided to wait to see what they say.. I dont have to so I am so glad i waited!
can they have a look before you turn it in???

The manager of the dealership will be looking at it to give me an idea, but I dont think he is the ultimate say.
My fear is that this manager will glaze over things, an then I get a crazy bill in the mail.
Its really a no win, this is why I am buying this time. This is such a hassle.

Re: Returning a leased car with bumps and bruises
when i returned my lease and bought another car with the same car maker...they went over my car only a few scratches...no biggie...then i got a bill in the mail for $300...the protective cover under the car was cracked and they charged me for it!!! I would just bring it somewhere have them check everything even under the car!
