If you don't have one they will only give you a store credit for the lowest sale price.
Did you put it on a Macy's charge? Maybe they can look it up in customer service.

if you put it on a macys charge they can just look it up at any register when you make the return.

Be warned, they will MAIL you the merchandise credit.
I returned something WITH a gift receipt. The woman couldn't get the receipt to scan since it was from out of state. She put it in as no receipt and then said okay you will get your merchandise credit in the MAIL. I was peeved since I had planned on buying something else that day.

If you bought it with Macy's or any CC, they can look it up. I've returned items without a receipt and just gave them my credit card and got it credited to my account.
