RH Factor
Hi Ladies,
I was wondering if anyone knew anything about being pregnant and having their RH factor being negative? My girlfriend just found out she is pregnant and knows that her RH factor is negative and her hubands is positive, and she's worried about what effect that may have on her baby and her pregnancy. Thanks in advance for any thoughts or information. Happy and healthy 9 months to all of you!!!

Re: RH Factor
She will have to get a shot- it is called RhoGam. I have a negative RH and I will be getting mine at my 28 week appt, and then again after the baby is born. It's really nothing to worry about- I didn't even know till my last appt. at 25 weeks that I had a negative Rh and I have had a very healthy pregnancy so far.

Re: RH Factor
Thank you so much for your responses. I will let her know. Do you happen to know if this is the same proceedure if this is the second pregnancy? She had miscarried several years ago.

Re: RH Factor
Yes it will be the same procedure, no matter how many times she is pg. Even if you are on your second child, still need the shot
Sorry for her loss
My mom is neg, and we were born all positives, my brother's blood crossed the placenta during birth. For some reason they didn't give her the shots the second time around. She found out after that, if my parents wanted another baby since her body built up immunities, the new immunities would either attack my mom or the baby.
Hence I only have 1 sibling :)

Re: RH Factor
it's more of a concern for 2nd, 3rd and 4th children - as the previous poster wrote, the mother can build up antibodies to attack the babies blood. So you get a shot. Honestly, it's not a big deal at all anymore and nothing to worry about.
I mean, shots are not fun - but it will all be fine.
