RH negative- Anyone get RhoGam

Just wondering at my last visit they told me I was gonna get a shot at my 28 week appointment of Rhogam? I guess because my blood type is o-?

Anyone else?

Does insurance cover this? Was the shot done in the dr office or did you have to go elsewhere for it?

we're the same my dear....

O negative here too...

getting it done in the doc's office and it should be covered by your insurance... i get mine done on the 26th.

eta: yes, it's because we have a negative blood type.

Great thanks ladies!! I knew it wouldn't be a big deal but I wasn't aware of this until I was at the office and the nurse was like oh next visit you need a shot because of Rh negative and I was like what?? Then she gave me reading material.

yep, if you're Rh negative and your husband is Rh positive you need to get the Rhogam shot, to prevent your body from rejecting the baby if the baby is Rh positive.

usually you'll get it at 28 weeks and then after birth (for the next pregnancy). but if you have any bleeding complications during the pregnancy you may get it then too.

first time around i had it at 28 weeks and then postpartum. this time around i had it once already at 16 weeks because i had some bleeding...

Gotcha thanks for the information. I didn't have any bleeding I guess just because I am O negative.

Re: RH negative- Anyone get RhoGam

I am getting it on Saturday. I have to pick it up at the pharmacy and bring it with me. (in this case, I'm not going in for it. My mom is a nurse and they are letting her give it to me)

I had it when I m/c'ed. It's no biggie.

Re: RH negative- Anyone get RhoGam

I had to get it before DD was born and then after she was born because she ended up being RH+ like my husband. It wasn't too bad - stings a little bit though.

Re: RH negative- Anyone get RhoGam

you don't have to have it if your dh is rh- too. (though i have heard of some offices making it mandatory either way, so check with your dr. i know my midwives only do it if you're rh- and dh is rh+)

I'm A- and needed the shot at 15 weeks and my insurance covered it. I did have to pick it up from the pharmacy and return to my dr's to actually get the shot.

Re: RH negative- Anyone get RhoGam

I am B- and had it at 28 weeks. It was covered by insurance. I had it at the hospital but I think only because I had to be there for something else anyway. I had another one when I delivered DS because he is Rh+
