Rhogam question for a friend...
Maybe someone on here knows the answer to this - my friend asked me b/c I've had the Rhogham shot in my pregnancies, but I don't know how this works.
Her sister just learned she and husband's combine bloodtype is Rh-(she is doing a nursing rotation). However, she had an abortion years ago, and although not ready to TTC, she is concerned about a future PG b/c she didn't have the shot as she didn't know about this issue and no one asked her.
So what happens next? Are her future pregnancies at risk?

Right, I def. told her to do that - but now I'm curious if anyone's heard of this type of situation

Re: Rhogam question for a friend...
The shot is only given if the mother is RHnegative and the father is RHpositive. It is not necessary if both are positive or both are negative. HTH
And if she was RHneg and never got the shot after having the abortion, it wouldn't do anything at this point. It has to be administered no more than 72 hours after miscarriage, abortion or birth to prevent the mothers body from producing antibodies.

Then I have it mixed up. She is -, and him +.
I realize she can't have it now - I guess she's just trying to figure if she will lose her next PG b/c she never had it. I said unfortunately, I think it might increase the risk, but I don't think it's a given, KWIM? I feel bad for her - no way she could have known - someone seems to have dropped the ball.

Re: Rhogam question for a friend...
Is she sure she didn't get it? When I had a D&C last year I was given Rhogam and I don't thinK I had even asked about it. Maybe it was in my records already.
She should definitely ask her doctor about the situation.
