Rice for party?
I need to make rice to go with Chicken Francese we're ordering. Can I make it the day before? How should I reheat it if so?
or should I do it in the crockpot that day and if so how?
TIA!

Re: Rice for party?
I find that left over rice gets very dry...I would just make it before guests come and just keep it on a very low flame.
I never made rice in the crock pot but I can share my recipe which I make in a reg. pot.
Rice to water is always 2:1 (for every cup of rice use 2 cups of water)
2 cups rice (I like carolina or any long grain rice) 4 cups water 2 Bullion Cubes or the powdered version 1/2 stick of butter 2tbp oil.
In a large pot put the 2tbsp. oil and pour in the 2 cups of rice and mix around so all the rice is covered with oil and let it cook for 2 minutes. Pour in the 4 cups of water and let it boil then add the butter and 2 bullions and cover with lid and occasionally mix around so the bouillon gets incorporated well.
Takes about 20-30 mins.

Re: Rice for party?
You can make a day ahead. Reheat by adding a bit of water and popping it (covered) in the microwave.
I've never done rice in a crockpot so I'm no help there.
I would - however - consider a rice cooker. They are relatively inexpensive and it will allow you to cook the rice and keep it warm that same day with little to no impact on everything else you have going on. And you can have people serve themselves right from the rice cooker.

Re: Rice for party?
I bought rice from the Chinese restaurant, and the next day re-heated it in the crock pot. It came out good!

Re: Rice for party?
I would cook it a day ahead and add water before reheating to keep it moist.
I did cook it once in the crockpot and it came out fine. I don't remember the specifics but I know I had just googled it.

Re: Rice for party?
i always make rice like I make macaroni, but make sure you make in a pot you can have a lot of extra water because of the starch level. If you need to reheat it, undercook the rice by a minute or so, the next day, just boil some water and dumb the rice into boiled water a minute or two until all heated up.
I am a bigger fan of making rice and pasta the day...easy enough to just boil water dump and stir than to try to heat it up evenly.

Re: Rice for party?
We make oven-baked rice the day before and then heat it up the next day on the sterno. If it gets a little dry just put in some chicken broth. I don't have my exact recipe with me right now but this is a basic one or you can just google baked rice. We do it all the time and it's delish!!
******** Heat oven to 350 use oven safe pan pour desired rice amount and add 2x the water (boiling water) to it along with about 1/2 tablespoon of salt to every 4 cups of rice and 3 or 4T of butter to every 4 cups of ricecover pan with foil air tightplace pan in oven for about 45 mintake out oven and let sit and steam with cover still on pan for approx. 10min.use fork to fluff rice...
