Riley has her first set of shot this Friday What do I need to bring(calming)

What should I expect from her first round of shots?

Should I give her pain medicine before or after?

Any tips to make it easier on her and us would be great!!

TIA
Denise

We always give our DD alittle tylenol before hand and have a bottle ready for when it is over.

Good Luck!!

I didn't give DD anything for pain, but I nursed her immediately after the shot to calm and soothe her.

I wouldn't give her anything before the shots. If for some reason your ped decides not to give her the shots, then you are medicating for no reason. You can most certainly give her the tylenol either right after the shot or once you get home. It takes a while for them to take effect anyway, so you really are better off givign it to her after the shot anyway. My DD is fine with her shots. Just needs a little cuddling afterwards.

tylenol 1/2 hour before the shot, this is what I always did and I always knew when she was due for a shot Chat Icon

Same here.

I also bring a small bottle with me and give that to her immediately after to soothe her (usually only 2oz since she generally has a full bottle right before her appointment).

If this is her first shots i would wait to give her anything till after the shots. Every child is different and i would not want to give medicine if it is not necesary. My DD had her shot in the hospital and was fine afterwards. We're going for her shots next week.

I would bring a bottle and be ready to feed her after the shot to calm her down.

My ped said no tylenol unless DC had a fever. So I listened to DC cry for 45 mins on the way home and in the house. Then I called my friend. She said, "Bleep the doc". She isn't there listening to your son cry. (DC didn't usually cry).

So from now on I gave Tylenol before we left for the doc. My doc said to give it after the shot.

One reason doc might not give shot is if DC is sick. We went to get DS his flu shot 3 times b/c he had an ear infection.

My doc gave me a tylenol schedule:
Concentrated Tylenol Infant Drops
80mg/0.8 ML
6-11 lbs 0.4ML
12-17 lbs 0.8 ML
18-23 lbs 1.2 ML

For Children's Tylenol Suspension Liquid 160 mg/5 ML
12-17 lbs 1/2 teaspoon
18-23 lbs 3/4 teaspoon

I agree. I only gave Tylenol once after DS's 2 month shots. I gave it several hours later when he was cranky and felt a little warm. DC may not have any reaction to the shots. Personally, I'd wait and see how DC does.

If DC takes a pacifier, I'd bring that. DS cried a little bit, but was fine shortly afterwards and fell asleep in the car on the way home.
