Re: RIU Bahamas Hotel
Yes, I've been there and won't go back. The prices are that good for a reason.
The lobby is absolutely beautiful but that the only part of the hotel that had been redone. The rooms are okay but not great. When we stayed room service would come really late in the day - around 4 or 5 which kind of bugged me because we like to go back to our room at that time. The only time room service came early was the day we were checking out and they were knocking on the door at 8 am!
Another problem was the restaurants. To go to any of the sit down restaurants, you would have to make a reservation. You had to be down in the lobby at 7:30am to wait on line for a 1/2 hour to make a reservation. I don't know about you, but that isn't something I wanted to do on my vacation.
The buffets were tolerable. It took the staff way too long to replenish food that had been finished and they didn't clean the tables. So unless you were down there first, you had to clean a table yourself and wait around a while for food.
The pool was nice but not heated so it was cold. The beach was really nice and not too crowded.
One nice thing about the hotel is that it's right next to Atlantis which is a beautiful hotel. We ate over there and spent a lot of time there.
Hope this helps.

Re: RIU Bahamas Hotel
I'm surprised to hear this, a former co-worker of mine stayed there and she had wonderful things to say about it. Thanks for posting this info, I was thinking about checking into this place for us this year. Now I'm rethinking....

Re: RIU Bahamas Hotel
There is a brand new Riu that just opened in Ocho Rios. We are going next week. Trip advisor has good reviews. Do you definitely want to go to the Bahamas?

Re: RIU Bahamas Hotel
All in clusive hotels make you wait on line in the morning to make reservations for the sit down restaurants. I have heard that it is good. You can go next door and use the atlantis's casino. I didn't stay there but was considering it.

Check out Comfort Suites - it's right across from Atlantis and I believe you get acess to everything that the guests at Atlantis get - like the pools, aquariums, and park.
