Riverside park stabbing - what is going on in this city?
This stabbing took place just a few blocks from my apartment. While the details haven't been fully fleshed out, seeing the footage of the baby stroller is heart breaking. Between this, the biker thing, and the guy who got attacked with a brick a few weeks ago, I'm starting to feel really unsafe in my neighborhood.

I also live in the area, and was just emailing my husband about all of these things. I think there has always been violence in Riverside Park, at least from time to time, but it definitely appears to be getting more frequent. I have mixed feelings on stop and frisk but it does appear that there has been an increase in violent crimes since it was declared unconstitutional. I wouldn't say that it makes me feel unsafe in my neighborhood (at least not yet), but I would use extra caution in city parks in the early morning and evening hours. You just never know.

OMG my bf lives a few blocks away and we run there all the time. That's scary especially because that's not THAT early in the AM

That is my running route!! Today I ran North and didn't go there- but my run ended at that time.... SO SCARY. I think its time to join a running group.

Not saying this should justify the situation but I just saw this on the news and once again it sounds like a failure of our mental health system/lack of resources in general.
They said the guy was homeless.
I worked professionally with that population for a couple of years and it's very rough.

I'm a Central Park runner, but was going to start running there to change things up a bit. Well, definitely not doing that now. While I know this is an isolated incident, the park is a bit secluded at times, so not going to chance it.

Yup. Today I ran in CP and I think that is where I will finish up my training until the marathon.
