Robert Irwin, the 4-year-old son of "Crocodile Hunter" Steve Irwin wasn't at all alarmed when he was recently bitten
Robert Irwin, the 4-year-old son of "Crocodile Hunter" Steve Irwin wasn't at all alarmed when he was recently bitten by a baby boa constrictor, according to his mother.
Irwin's widow, Terri, said Monday at an appearance at FAO Schwarz with her two children that he picked one of them up and it bit him on the finger. She said he was so proud to have "copped his first hit." "He said, 'I hope it wasn't venomous,' so I assured Robert I wouldn't actually let him play with venomous snakes," she added.
Terri Irwin said the couple's 9-year-old daughter, Bindi, was first bitten by a snake when she was 18 months old.
Bindi Irwin was in New York signing action figure toys of her late father as the family promoted a new line of toys.
Steve Irwin, known through his nature television series as a wrangler of crocodiles and snakes, died in 2006 from a stingray's barbed tail during an underwater documentary shoot. He was 44.

The kids love animals and want to be around them....not sure how it's child abuse. Animals are unpredictable. Just like dogs sometimes turn and bite children...snakes do too. They don't normally strike.. We had a pet python when I was younger. Had it for years and never had a problem, then one day the dog came from behind and scared it and it struck. It happens...but I hardly see how it's considered abuse.
Edited for spelling.

"He said, 'I hope it wasn't venomous,' so I assured Robert I wouldn't actually let him play with venomous snakes," she added.
BUT, she'll let him play with an animal that is capable of wrapping it's body around something and squeezing it to death.
I've never been a fan of these people... I find them a little bit on the irresponsible side when it comes to handling certain animals.

I agree. They are a little too fanatical for me, they even live on the zoo property. No chance for these kids to be normal. And I think it's creepy how much the mom has the daughter doing. I know it seems like the kid likes it, but it really bothers me for some reason.

She is. I look at the way she handled her father's death and no coaching in the world could give her such grace.

Wow...hate is such a strong word for people who dedicate their lives to animal welfare. Every one of the Irwins' has spent their time and energy trying to educate people, save and rehabilitate wild animals - this is their lifes work. They have dumped most of their money right back into the zoo, conservation parks and preserves and kept very little for themselves.
And yet, people choose to hate them because they allow their children to learn about animals up close and personal....

While I understand their love for animals I think it's TOTALLY irresponsible to leave such wild animal with a 4 year old. Although not venonimous, this is a constrictor snake. There was no holding the snake out if he was to constrict the child.

It was a BABY constrictor....maybe two feet long at the max....I'm betting it couldn't constrict a four year old child.

STOP LETTING YOUR CHILDREN PLAY WITH WILD ANIMALS!!!!!!!!!! IT'S NOT NORMAL!!!!!!!!!
I have ZERO sympathy for bites from wild animals. Human beings should NOT interact with wild animals. Animals are behaving AS THEY SHOULD when they bite anything that comes near them.
If you're STUPID enough to play with wild animals, then you DESERVE to get chomped on!
I digress.
