Rocky Point vs Three Village SD for Special Ed ?

If anyone is familiar with these school districts I would absolutely love feedback. I have three little kids, two are typically developing and one with special needs, so I am trying to find a school district they all will thrive in.

What type of approach do they use for literacy ? Balance literacy or some sort of workbook type program...ex Fundations ?

If you happen to know how they handle special needs, ...self contained, inclusion, integrated etc ? Do they allow for outside services OT , Speech etc ? Or is it all in school ? Are they "kind"/"generous" or just have a one track mind ?

How is the CSE chair in either district ?

Re: Rocky Point vs Three Village SD for Special Ed ?

I apologize in advance for the length of this lol.

I have heard that Rocky Point has an excellent SN program but I have no firsthand knowledge.

My DD just started Kindergarten in the Three Village School district and is THRIVING. I am literally in love with her school this year. She has done so much and every single person I deal with has been helpful and wonderful. There are a ton of placements within the school district depending on your child’s needs. The main “special needs” school is Arrowhead and they house most of the self contained classrooms. Each elementary has their own 12:1:1 class as well as SN students that are integrated into general ed classes. One of the schools also has a co-teaching class with a gen ed teacher and a special ed teacher. I feel they are very flexible with placement and have given me anything I have needed. DD is in an 8:1:1 class for ABA half the day and then transitions to a 12:1:1 for academic blocks and all specials. There are also children in her class that transition to gen ed for half a day as well. She also has a 1:1 TA. If approved for a 1:1 aide, you can use the aide for after school activities too like game club or book club.

She gets speech and OT at school. I’m not sure about external services because I have never asked.

Academics are really geared towards the individual child. For DD they are going against the gen ed curriculum for her as she has no academic issues. She is already reading at an H level and is doing math on par with gen ed kindergarten. Her spelling and vocabulary were just tested off the charts as it was so high. They have a life skills room where they cook almost once a week and also have computers once a week as well as having an IPAD in the room. I heard, but not 100% sure that they are installing smart boards in all the classrooms this week as well.

Before DD started the school year she was diagnosed as a selective mute and did not talk at all. The staff immediately jumped on this and literally within two weeks was answering questions and greeting people. The whole school staff knows her and greets her by name, the security guards, office staff, and all special teachers. I pick her up at school and the staff goes out of their way to let me know how DD did during the day or if she had an issues. The principal and assistant principal are great as well. Sophia’s “reward” for listening all day is to visit the office (her choice lol). The principal will sit with her almost daily and color or read a book. The principal walks her to lunch and down to her classes. She’s amazing and caring.

I have my CSE meeting next week so I can’t comment on that yet but we did our prelim meeting and I was given everything I asked for and approved and modified all goals for next year.

For typical children, Three Village is one of the best as well.

Thank You !!! The details you gave have put my mind at ease . You created a very warm feeling in your post and that's the type of environment I am in search of. It sounds like that SD has so many options which is really amazing.
