Re: rolling over in your sleep???

its not recomended but my OB always said it wasn't a problem if you woke up and found yourself on your back.

I slept on my back often - it was one of the few comfortable positions in the end...

Re: rolling over in your sleep???

I always slept on my back before I was pregnant. My doctor said not to worry about it, but if you CAN, sleep on your side - left side preferably.

In the beginning, I tried to sleep on my side, but kept finding myself on my back in the night. My DH would wake me up CONTSTANTLY and tell me to roll over. I got two body pillows (much cheaper than the Snoogle) and put one on each side. I now lay on my left side and snuggle the pillow. My DH comes around the bed and wedges the other one behind me so I don't move. Sometimes if I am uncomfortable, I switch sides and do the same thing laying on my right side.
I can't say it's fool-proof, but I do think I have myself trained now to sleep only on my side. Good luck!

I actually asked my OBGYN about this the last time I was there.

She said as long as you aren't completely flat it is okay. You just need the slightest incline. If you have a pillow under one side that should be fineChat Icon

Re: rolling over in your sleep???

Your body will tell you when you shouldn't sleep on your back. It will hurt!

I slept on my back my whole pg up until about 35 weeks. After that i just couldn't, my girth was wayy to uncomfy and it hurt.

My doc said as long as i am sleeping it doesn't matter, it's better to get rest. Sleeping on your back cannot hurt the baby if you are carrying a normal pg.

Re: rolling over in your sleep???

I am guilty of this I start out on my left side with a ton of pillows around me but I toss and turn and wind up kicking all the pillows off and on my back. oh well

My doc said the same thing. I find that if I am laying on my back..it's not comfortable and hard to breathe...so my body already is telling me to move!

I agree. If you are on a pillow or two, and are comfortable, it's not a big deal. However, as I got farther along in my pregnancy, it became impossible to sleep on my back. It is so terribly uncomfortable now even I'm on a big incline with 4 pillows. Your body will tell you what's ok.

I would always start off on my side and end up on my back. As I got bigger though the only way I was actually comfortabl was sleeping upright against my head board.

I use the snoogle and usually cuddle it on my left side. I find I wake up queasy if I lay on my right side and I sometimes wake up on my back, but I'm usually on an incline so I don't worry about it.

It's best to get your rest!!Chat Icon
