Rome & Florence - any recommendations?

DH and I have booked flights and hotel for a trip to Rome and Florence in the end of March. Any recommendations of great places to eat, things you must see? also looking for a wine tour in Tuscany day trip sort of thing, so if you've been on one of those let me know that as well!

Can't wait!!

Great restaurant in Florence is called Mossacccre (might be spelled wrong) it is like 2 blocks from the Duomo.

Fantastic and very reasonably priced. This was a local spot, not a lot of tourists. One of the best meals of my life. We found it in Fodor's travel book.

Thanks! I will definitely make a note of that! DH bought the Fodor's for Florence and Tuscany and a couple of other travel books for Rome and Florence off of half.com for like $2 each and it's kind of overwhelming to try to find things--personal recommendations are always best!!

Re: Rome & Florence - any recommendations?

We did "taste florence" tour it was AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!

Link

We started out at this little winery shop, stopped at the market for a lot of food tasting (plus more wine), stopped at a gelato place...etc..

love, love, loved it. She recommended a place to us eat that night and it was the best meal we had in florence. (her recommendations are little side street places, which I found to be the best while in rome and florence)

Re: Rome & Florence - any recommendations?

definitely try a restaurant in Piazza Navona. My DH doesn't like change, so we ate at 3 of them while we were there and they were all wonderful! I need to go back just to try different restaurants! LOL

In Florence try La Giostra - it was EXCELLENT! We took a wine tour of a Castle and Vineyard in the Chianti region, but our travel agent booked it, so i don't know what it was called. sorry!

don't miss the Boboli gardens in Florence, or Il Battistero (the baptistry) next to The Duomo, unreal mosaic work on the ceiling of the stories of the bible. I'm a church fanatic so I went to almost all major churches in Rome and Florence. Dont miss climbing to the top of St Peter's Basilica! Great view of Rome. Have a great trip!!
