Rotavirus sent us to the hospital for a 2 night stay

Wow! That rotavirus can really be a beast!!!

DD started throwing up on Saturday afternoon and by 24 hours later she had thrown up about 12 times. She had a fever of 102. Sunday my doctor had me bring her in (thank goodness one of the offices is opened on Sunday) and he said that she was little dehydrated and to rehydrate her with an eye dropper b/c if she were to drink it was just going to come back up. We did that and Tylenol suppositories. By Monday, she was refusing all food & drinks; she was lifeless and diarrhea took over where the vomiting had left off. I took her back to the doctor and he sent us to the ER.

She was given IV fluids and they x-rayed her belly. They saw that he intestine had ceased so whatever went in was just coming out either end.Chat Icon They also said that her belly was distended and filled with painful gases. They admitted us and after 2 nights we finally got to come home today. She is not 100% but definitely on the road to recovery.

What a terrible 5 days---I want a redo! I am glad that I didn't catch anything while I was in the hospital with DD the whole stay. I am 36 weeks pregnant so that was a bit scary.

Wow, that sounds vicious! Glad to hear you are both home and on the road to recovery!

I assume she never had the rotavirus vaccine? How old is she again?

Unfortunately, she never got the vaccination. She is almost 2 1/2 years old. The doctor said that the new baby will get the vaccination.

Re: Rotavirus sent us to the hospital for a 2 night stay

OMG, I have been so afraid of this (and other illnesses) as DD is behind on her vaccines including the Rotavirus vac. I've had multiple stomach viruses throughout this pregnancy thanks to things she picks up and they've been awful... I feel for you and hope you continue to feel well.

Re: Rotavirus sent us to the hospital for a 2 night stay

Thanks for all of your good wishes! We had a good night so we'll see what today brings.

There is nothing like taking 4 days off from work 3 weeks before my maternity leave. As of tomorrow, I have 2 weeks left to work.
