Rotten egg/sulfur smell in basement?

Rotten egg/sulfur smell in basement?
My neighbor who is a plumber came over and said it didnt look like it was the sewer line. We opened the windows. Hopefully it goes away. He said it could have just been a freak thing. Has this happened to anyone else?

When you have a gas leak the gas is scented to smell like rotten ages. I would call keyspan immediately.

We dont have gas, we have oil.
we figured it out anyhow. DH bought some type of chemical and put it down the toilet and it must have loosed stuff in the pipes The smell is all gone thank god.
