rough day vent. he just can't handle the heat with his breathing.

DH would think I was crazy with this vent...so I will let it go here. no need to comment, just on my mind(i know these posts get old)

In this heat, I have josh home at 10 AM everyday. We get out early so that we are home by 10. I am at parks at 8 AM, horseback riding at 8...he rides his bike at 7 AM.

DH thinks I am nutty, but I have seen this kid, he can't handle the heat. Then i watch these ozone advisories...

today we were meeting his friends to feed ducks at 10:30. I said, okay we will give it a try.

in an hour, he was sick and panting. i rushed home...he walks up my front steps, i am getting baby out of car, look up and he is on all 4's. can't stand up. gasping.
gave him albuterol in neb. still looked bad and fever shot up to 102.5 from nothing.

called dr, took him in. did not even tell him my 10 am rule...he said he really can't be out after 10-11ish. I almost fell over. dh felt like a creep. making fun of me.

i take him to indoor places and people's homes...but it is a must to keep car cool before he gets in.

so my vent....how is he going to ever go to camp? i loved sleepaway camp. i loved summer day camp. ahhh...i know it could be worse, but what the hell??????????

I'm not making light of this by any means, but is there a chance he will outgrow his asthma? This way, he can enjoy camp and other activites outside.

I hope tomorrow is a better day

I had ery very bad asthma as a child, to the point where walking fast (not even jogging or running) would trigger it, I would be gasping for air-- the heat made it SO much worse.

THE GOOD NEWS, I outgrew it. Yes, my asthma slowly got much better and now I can easily say its gone!

Hopefully your son will outgrow it too!! AND good for you for sticking to your guns about the 10am rule Chat Icon Chat Icon

This completely sucks. Poor Josh and poor you, it cannot be fun to feel trapped inside during what's supposed to be the "good summer weather".
Good job on taking him out/home early; I've been doing the same with DS cause our skin just fries in the hot sun.

Is there any way his asthma could improve with age???

Poor little guy. Sorry to hear this.

BTW, love the name Josh.Chat Icon

Like a PP said, this is supposed to be "get out there" weather but I was just running errands and could not wait to get back inside.Chat Icon

It is just so hot and uncomfortable in general, much less for someone with respiratory problems.Chat Icon
