Rude People (work vent)

I work with a lot of Jewish families. These families are extremely religious and I have previously been asked not to call on Saturdays as it is their day of rest and they don't use phones and such on Saturdays. Ok fine no problem...its my weekend to relax so I don't want to talk to them anyway. But WHY is it ok for them to call me on Sundays?? I am catholic, this is my day of rest and I don't want to talk. Why is it ok for me not to bother them on their day of observance but its ok for them to ring my phone five hundred times every Sunday til I pick up. I work with children, their is absolutely nothing that can be done on weekends, so why bug me on my two days off? I just think this is so rude and next week will be sending out a memo to my parents stating I am not available on weekends and if its an emergency leave a message and I'll get back to them first thing Monday. I am just tired of feeling like I work seven days a week!!!

Have you vocalized your feelings of Sunday as they have vocalized thier feelings on Saturday? If not, they may not know y ou practice this way.

I didn't think I had to, thats why I am going to send out a memo. They know I am catholic just like i know they are jewish. My boss told me not to call, she is jewish too, it wasn't the family that told me, so I did it out of respect for their religion. I am just ticked that this one particular mother is CONSTANTLY calling me for stupid reasons, that most of the time have nothing to to with me or the work that I do with their child, thats what bugs me the most. Ok, done venting, want to enjoy the rest of my day off, I have shut the cell off!!

OOh then thats just rude of them. You can let it slide OR you can call them next saturday over something not related to them either

This happens all the time with some of my parents and their childrens early intervention teachers. I have to tell them all the time unless it is an emergency don't call them on their cell phone

Thats what my hubby told me to do, I just can't bring myself to do it, I don't want to be rude!!

Yes, that is very annoying. I would send that memo out asap. People are such idiots sometimes.

I think it's because the rules observing of Jewish sabbath is very different then Catholic sabbath.

Several of my co-workers are orthodox and don't cook, turn lights on or off, watch tv, use the phone, etc. and some won't even use a pen. Sundays are nothing like that for Catholics (as far as any practicing catholics that I know)

I do think your day off should be respected and I am sure if you request that you not be disturbed on the weekends, they will honor that request.
