ruh roh im in twouble...

I recently posted about my friend in Vegas who I talk to she was addicted to Heroin. She called and said she was alive the other day. I am so happy. She has been sober for 65 days.

She called tonight and said she is coming to NY for her cousins wedding. She asked if she could stay with me. I was caught of guard and said ok. THEN she said it was thursday like a week from today Chat Icon AND it's going to be for 2 weeks. I already plan on putting all my expensive things at my parents house Chat Icon.

But when I asked my DH he was not happy about it. He said we havent talked to her in over a year. And she wants to stay for 2 weeks. Now I don't know what to do. How do I tell her no Chat Icon

We decided to lock up everything medicine included and let her stay for a couple of days and see how it goes. I told her this and she agreed. She said she understands she has to gain trust back.

Good luck...and it's actually a good thing you are doing. My sister is clean for almost a year now and she says all the time that the best thing about being clean is being welcomed back by family and close friends.
She says that's what has helped her stay clean, knowing she has a support group.

Two weeks is a long time! Maybe see if she can stay for only one week and then go somewhere else? I think it's a good idea to lock up your valuables and meds too....you just never know! Chat Icon

Re: ruh roh im in twouble...

It would be a positive thing for her if you welcomed her into your home, but seriously, if one thing happens, something is missing, she takes off for a few days...don't let her stay anymore. If she grew up on LI, seeing old people / places could potentially be a trigger. Just watch your ace Chat Icon Chat Icon

2 weeks is a bit much! I would not let my BFF stay over for a week. I let my BFF stay on my sofa bed for 5 days and then sent her to our other friends house, lol.

Re: ruh roh im in twouble...

Two weeks is way too long. Even if it goes well, I wouldn't let her stay that long. Make sure she knows it's just for a few days and she needs to have a plan for the rest of the time.

I think it would have been smarter for her to stay elsewhere and get reacquainted with you without living with you for a few days.

I think 2 weeks is too long for ANYONE, regardless of the situation.

As others have said, give it a couple of days and go from there.
