Rule of thumb with coloring hair during pregnancy

Whats the protocol for coloring hair during pregnancy. im 8.5 weeks today and i have highlights growing out. I wanted to color it back to one color what should I do?

I believe that you can still get highlights because the color doesn't touch the scalp. I've been getting a semi-permanent color that washes out a bit and is still safe. I can't keep up with the price and maintance of highlights anymore. Plus, brown is 'IN" now!!Chat Icon


Edited to add: I found out I was pregnant in September, I got my last highlights in November.

Hi-lights are OK because they don't touch the scalp. I got them throughout my first trimester.

When I first got pregnant..I asked my DR the same question and he said as long as my salon uses vegetable dye.... has anyone ever heard of this?????

what about getting my hair colored back to one color? i dont want to pay to keep up the hightlights as it is expensive and dont know if i want to sit in a chair for 3 hours while gettting highlights.

I colored my hair when I was 15 weeks, I did it on my own, I didn't want to go to the salon and breathe all the chemicals there!

I was told it was ok and personally, I'd wait till you get into the 2nd trimester.

My midwife advised me not to so I haven't. I would rather be safe than sorry when it comes to my baby. Besides I'll get to have a nice makeover after her birth.
