Runners - How to avoid cramps?
I just started alternating between running and walking at an incline. I always end up getting a cramp in my side within the first 10 minutes or so. Anything I can do to avoid that?
THANKS!

Re: Runners - How to avoid cramps?
this happened to me all the time when i first started running. try eating more potassium, that might help avoid them. once you have the cramp make sure you are breathing deeply with your diaphragm. try to breathe out when you put the foot on the opposite side from the cramp down. also try pursing your lips and sort of forcing the air out. you can also try pressing real hard on the area that's cramped. good luck! the good news is that after a few weeks you should stop getting them!

I don't know how to avoid it but this is how I manage it.
I lean into a cramp when I am running. I try to massage it out and bend my body on that side for a few minutes.

I was always told to eat a banana before you go, and I never had leg cramps.
