Runners, foot pain?
Hey girls! I'm currently out of the country on vacation so I can't go see a doctor right away. I'm returning tomorrow but I was wondering in the meantime if this sounds familiar to anyone?
I've been doing a lot of walking in flip flops and some biking and running in good sneakers. My feet have been uncomfortable in flip flops and when walking barefoot. I wore heels the other night then walked back to the room barefoot and that's when the severe pain started.
It's on my right foot, mostly on the outside/top of the foot and ankle. I have no pain when resting but as so as I put pressure on my foot it is incredibly painful. It feels slightly better if I don't put my foot all the way flat when walking and stay limited to the ball of my foot although I still limp.
If I wear sneakers I still get the pain. The pain is relieved temporarily (like a few steps) after long periods of rest or by stretching and massaging my foot and ankle.
I don't have to walk much today but I'm worried about getting through the airport tomorrow.

Re: Runners, foot pain?
Have you happened to sprain your right ankle a lot over the years? Or step onto it weird?
If someone were to push your foot inward (while you are sitting with legs spread out on a bed), so that your toes are facing diagonally in (and your outer ankle is being stretched), do you stretch further on one foot or the other?
I ask because I was having very similar pain/weakness in the same spot as you are on my right foot. It was the outside of the my upper foot and ankle and when I went to see my PT, she did this test and because of so many right ankle sprains/missteps, my right foot/ankle was weaker and I experienced pain from it when walking/running/putting pressure on it. I was given a ton of exercises to do to strengthen the ankle. Obviously yours could be something different but your symptoms sound similar.

Re: Runners, foot pain?
I would definitely get it checked. A couple of years ago I had pain on the top of my foot that got more and more intense as I continued to use it. Finally, about a week of using and running on it, it was unbearable to step down on it, the top of my foot felt like someone was stabbing me. I ended up having a stress fracture in my 3rd metatarsal and I was in a boot for about 5 weeks. Good luck and definitely try to keep pressure off it. Getting through the airport might be rough so definitely leave yourself some additional time.
