Runners: Let's talk about issues with your feet
I have been running for a year now. My feet are not ugly but I've seen prettier. My issues are with my pinkie toes. I used to have normal toenails and now they seem to grow on an angle. It's weird. I never in my life had nail fungus but caught it on one toenail, took the oral meds for the full treatment and waiting for a new nail to grow BUT both nails look bruised from underneath. Is this what the life of a runner beholds for me? Does it get better. How are your feet?

Everyone is different. I'm one of the lucky ones who's never had an issue, even when doing a full marathon. Others lose toe nails when they do a 10k. It could possibly be your sneakers, but unfortunately some people are just prone to that. I would maybe talk to a doctor who runs and see what they suggest.

Re: Runners: Let's talk about issues with your feet
A friend of mine is a marathon junkie. She says it's all about your shoes. There are a few shops around where they do they water test on your feet to check exactly what kind of sneaker you need. It's won't be the cutest sneaker, but she said it makes a world of difference.
I'm not sure where you are, but the place she recommended to me was in Sayville.

all about the shoes and socks. Make sure you are wearing the right shoes for your feet and running SOCKS. All the difference in the world!

I've never had problems like that but I do have major problems with blisters that no sock, show, chafing stick or bandages have been able to help entirely. I'd go to runners edge in farmingdsle, they're so knowledgable.

Re: Runners: Let's talk about issues with your feet
I think (unfortunately) some people are just more susceptible to foot problems (toenails, blisters, etc) than other people. I run a lot of miles (45-50+) during the week and have not had too many issues with my feet. My friend loses toenails every time she runs a 10K.
My only two suggestions are:
1. Make sure your shoes fit properly. This may require you to buy half a size bigger.
2. Keep your toenails cut short.

Make sure your shoes are big enough.
I thought the people at the store were crazy when they told me to get a 9.
I'm an 8 - 8.5
Your feet swell when you run. If your pinky is being injured, it might be rubbing against the shoe.
You could try some of the glide rub. It looks like deodorant and it helps your skin from rubbing against shoes/socks. Its great for any other areas that chaffe - I use it where the bottom of my sports bra meets my chest.
Hope this helps.

I did this after i lost 2 toe nails on same toe. KEEP NAILS TRIMMED is a big one.

This will help so much. I will get bruised toe nails when marathon training. But one of my second toes is longer than my big toe and it' always having issues.

Re: Runners: Let's talk about issues with your feet
I bought new socks so hopefully that will help. My toenails are always trimmed so that can't be an issue and I wear a half size bigger shoe. If this doesnt help then I am going to go to the running store that I heard of in the city. Thanks so much for your responses.
