Runners: Questions about breaking in new shoes?
I got fitted for running shoes this weekend and found a pair I really liked. I wore them on a 25 minute run yesterday. The shoes felt good at the beginning, but about a mile in, the front half of the bottom of my feet began burning and eventually tingling. It has been a while since I bought running shoes, but I vaguely remember this happening in the past.
Is this normal? Do you think my feet hurt b/c I haven't broken the shoes in yet? How long does it take to break shoes in? Could the burning/tingling be from tying my laces too tight? What about from wearing the wrong socks? Or is it possible that the shoes are not as great as they seemed in the store?

Re: Runners: Questions about breaking in new shoes?
there are different schools of thought, some people say it takes 20-30 miles to break in; some say you should be able to run the first mile no problems.
I have been lucky to find a model that I don't have to break in. But I tried a different model this spring and I got an awful blister on my first run (which turned into a nasty cut/abscess). I ran 13 miles that day, so maybe I would have broken them in if I did less miles? but I went back to my old model - no problems.
It could be the laces. You are supposed to have tight laces, but I don't like them very tight.
Do you think the store has a 30 day return policy? maybe you can tell them what happened and they will have ideas?

This was my exact problem last time I was shopping for shoes. It would happen with every pair I'd try! Finally I realized I needed a shoe with REALLY good arch support... what a difference! I haven't had the problem since.

The store does have a 30 day return policy, which is nice. I'll probably try to wear them around the house and then see how they feel on my next run. Thanks.

Re: Runners: Questions about breaking in new shoes?
where exactly was the burning/tingling?
i had this problem and i felt it right where my toes meet my foot and it turned out to be morton's neuroma. i went to a sports podiatrist and they recommended and insert for my shoe and i've been fine ever since.
i'd also try loosening the laces particularly toward the front of the shoe.

It was on the front half of the bottom of my feet. My arches and heels felt fine. The rest of my foot on the bottom burned.

Re: Runners: Questions about breaking in new shoes?
hmmm... it could be neuromas. my toes would go completely numb.
i would try loosening the laces a bit and see if that helps. if not, it might be worth a visit to a podiatrist.
