Running times

Can you tell me what is a good running time for say 1 mile?

Treadmill running that is- I am too afraid of running on the street and falling flat on my face and losing teeth. Chat Icon

Thanks!

Re: Running times

I think it depends on a lot of different factors.

On average, though, I would say 8-9 minutes is a good pace. (That's about 6.7-7.5 mph on the treadmill)

Re: Running times

Don't worry about your time, running no matter what your time is great! That isn't to say you shouldn't push yourself once you feel your runs are getting easier. At that point run a little faster for one minute intervals..you are doing great! Chat Icon

Re: Running times

I agree! You WILL get faster. I even go in waves - my spring/summer times are much better than my winter times, for the sheer fact, I'm a bit lazier in the winter...LOL

If I take some time off, I get a bit upset at my training times, but I eventually get back to where I was

Re: Running times

I run/ walk 3 miles in 40 mins.. so on avg I go about a 13 min mile.. that is a combo of walking/running though.. I can't run the entire thing.. if you can run it all, I'd say a good time is 10-11 mins. per mile.

Re: Running times

If I was only running one mile, I could easily do 8 or 8.5 minutes.

I agree with what Robyn said. IMO, you should now concentrate on doing the full mile without walking, no matter how long it takes. Once you get your time (let's say 15 minutes) then just increase your speed a little bit each time. Speed will come with time. Chat Icon
