SA results and moving forward

I don't know if anyone remembers my post a few weeks ago, but I got a "negative" Postcoital test (with normal CM, but no sperm found in the sample). They said we may be male factor and to do the SA ASAP. We got the SA results today, and it was almost totally normal (normal volume, 21 million count, 64% motility). Morphology was on the "lower end of normal," and the doctor did not think that this was causing our IF. He said the next step is an HSG. every other test I've had has been normal.

I was a little upset that Dr Brenner rushed off the phone with me and I had a million other questions to ask, like WHY was there no sperm on the post coital then if my DH has normal counts and I have normal CM?? Do you ladies have any experience with this? Could it be immunological?

I'm also upset because I got AF on Monday and now I have to wait until next cycle to do the HSG. I didn't call on Monday b/c I wasn't sure that I definitely needed it. Now radiology can't squeeze me in on this short notice.

Sorry so long, but I am so confused and frustrated right now... Chat Icon

First, it's great that his count was almost normal on the SA. DH's first SA was on the low end of normal too until I sent him to acupuncture, those numbers can improve! I never knew so much could affect a SA - caffeine, smoking, working out (in a + way), different foods, nutritional supplements etc. DH's numbers have tripled.

Second, I would make a list of all the questions you have for your dr. Call the office, and tell them you have to speak with the dr. and have many questions, so he should call you when he has the time to talk, probablynot in between patients. Maybe there is a Nurse Practitioner in his office? I'm not familiar with your dr's office.

Third, I would call the radiology back and speak with someone else, they shoudl be used to having to squeeze in an HSG...you usually don't get alot of notice for that, just a week. maybe there is another office you can go to?

Good luck! Chat Icon

Thanks girls. I think I will call my doctor's office tomorrow and tell them about not getting an appointment for the HSG this month. They told me that might happen though, because I'm already on CD 4 today. I wonder if they can call and get me an appointment with the radiologist somehow. Probably not, but it's worth a shot.

I also like the idea of making a list of all my questions. Maybe I should make an appointment with the doctor to discuss them. He clearly didn't have the time on the phone today, although I was driving and on my cell phone, so I was very discombobulated.

i asked that EXACT question about the radiologist...to make sure they'd be able to get me in - because they are so 'strict' about when it gets done...

the nurse at my RE's office told me the minute you say HSG to the radiology place - they know darn well that you only have a certain number of days...

DEFINITELY call them ASAP!!!

I did call the radiologists today and they said I missed my chance to schedule the HSG this month! They are all booked already. Chat Icon

I am so upset because I actually have off next Tuesday and Wednesday, which would be CD 9 & 10 - would have been absolutely perfect timing...

I agree with this. There are many places that do HSG. I went to Nassau Radiologic and they gave me a few choices for locations. Don't give up!
