Re: Sachem tax increase?
Was it a school budget....usually property taxes don't get a vote.

I don't know the % increase - My sister-in-law is on the Civic board for Lake Ronkonkoma - She told us that the taxes were going up about that much.
ETA: My sister lives in the Sachem school district and is selling her house - She upped the listing of the property tax to compensate for the increase so that when buyers come to look at the house, they know what to expect.

I would call the town..get the info. I'm sure they will give it out. I'm sure homeowners will get it in writing though.

Re: Sachem tax increase?
The school budget passed and the tax increase is 1.6%. You can figure out your increase by looking at your tax bill and multiplying your school taxes by that amount. Next year, though, you can bet it will not be this low and we all can easily expect to be faced with a double digit increase.

Re: Sachem tax increase?
Just an FYI about taxes..especially in Nassau.we bought our house in 03..our taxes with STAR were $4200. Not bad right? Well Nassau started to reassess the property values and my taxes increased $2000 in 3 years. There will be another increase in 07. The school taxes will never increase like that although they will be higher than 1.6% I'm sure.
The school tax increase will be trumped by the property taxes all the time.

Re: Sachem tax increase?
The 1.6% increase is accurate... the board of education was worried it would not pass because of complacency... thank goodness it did because the contingency budget would have been a larger increase even though services would be taken away (when you go on contingency the state dictates exactly what funds can be used for specific purposes). So, we can all breath a sigh of relief for another year...
p.s. I am a resident and a teacher in the district
