Sachem taxes increasing?
DH and I are looking to buy a house in this SD. I heard that the taxes are going up quite a bit.
does anyone know where I can find more info about this?

well last year they tried for a 18% increase...it failed
then they went for a 11% increase...Failed as well
the problem is that they built a new school and now have to PAY FOR IT.
Apparently a lot of the people who live in the SD feel betrayed. That when the proposal for this "new school" was given ....such a drastic increase was NOT in the plan given to them. And seeing the proposed budget at 18% incease...****** a lot of people off...
I am looking in that same are and this is a concern of mine....that these increases are looming in the future

someone on LIW said that a 40% tax increase was coming for Sachem residents!

A new building should have been a bond issue - and should not be affecting people's taxes. The fact that it is - and to such a large degree - makes me leery that there is something else going on behind the scenes. Sure, things can be underestimated and those costs will be pushed through to the taxpayers - but with so much of the increase blamed on the new building - something doesn't seem right, IMO.
