Re: Sad but worth watching
Thank you for passing this on. It made me cry. I was just thinking about moving up to a "Big Girl" booster seat toady. I will definately get a seat with a 5 point latch.
I hope all of the Moms read this.

OMG I'm crying buckets here. That is absolutely horrible. Kyle reminds me so much of my Michael it makes it even scarier. They even look alike. I will definitely be purchasing the Britax Regent for him within the next year.

Re: Sad but worth watching
I am literally crying so much over here. It is so sad. But thank you so much for posting this. I just checked up on my son's car seat which eventually turns into a booster. Thank god it is a 5-Point harness and the booster holds children up to 100 lbs. This story is so sad.

Re: Sad but worth watching
I've been thinking about this clip all day. That sweet baby and that poor family. What a service she is doing by posting that clip!!
We are getting my nephew the Britax Regent- and plan on getting one for when our baby is needing one.

Re: Sad but worth watching
OMG, Me too. I have not stopped thinking about it. I could not go on if I ever lost my baby. I got out the directions to Ava's seat. I also weighed and measured her. She will be fine in her current seat for a few more months.
Just to let you all know. I have only found 2 seats (online and in the stores) that have a 5 point latch for kids over 40 lbs. They are:
1) Britax Regent 2) Apex- sold out right now at BRU Massapequa and Sayville
keep all your babies safe!!!!

Yes, and I think the Marathon is good for up to 65 lbs. Andrew will be in his for some time!

I have the Boulevard and I think it's 65lbs also. I am assuming avamamma was looking specifically for 5 point boosters? Although I'm not sure what the difference would be between that and a car seat. I have a feeling it will be along time before Miranda gets to 65lbs.

Isn't LATCH supposed to be used until 40-48lbs in most cars? There is a weight limit I know of. Then it's the seat belt.
DUH I saw you meant the harness...

Re: Sad but worth watching
Hi Moms, Sorry I didn't mention the Blvd or Marathon. I have 3 friends and a nephew that were no longer fitting comfortably in those way before they reached the weight limit- so I was looking specifically for a seat designed for the bigger/older toddler.

Re: Sad but worth watching
Ladies let me tell you that I could not stop replaying the clip in my head last night! I just couldn't get little Kyle's face out of my head, I cried for hours (damn PG hormones) and could not fall asleep (till approx. 3:30am). My extremely deep sleeper of a husband even noticed and I told him that he had to do whatever needed to be done to use the latch system and not just the seat belt. So when he came home today I told him to go down and latch the seat and he says "now what happened again? You saw something on the internet about the seat belt???" And I didn't say a word I just got my laptop and played the clip for him but I couldn't watch and then I made him lower the volume because just the music was making mear tear up. Then after he watched it and analyzed it he went downstairs and got to work. When he came back I asked if he did it and he said we now have the safest car in new york lol. So I said thank you and then Mikey thanked his daddy and hugged him too. I feel much better now.

Re: Sad but worth watching
Wait a second girls...before you buy new seats and such, remember this is a SEAT BELT failure. You don't need an expensive seat to make sure your children are safe. Most importantly, children should be in the correct seat for their age with the correct harness vs seatbelt and the biggest issue is that seats should be checked for proper installation.
Simply horrible what happened.

It's not a car seat issue but the fact that the seat belt failed and the child was only in a booster is why he died. If he was in a 5 point harness seat he may still be alive. I will never use a booster that only uses a seatbelt now, NEVER! I don't care how much it costs.

I agree, harnass for long as possible. At the same point though, after latch, unless you use the tether, you can still have seatbelt failure which is still holding the carseat in. At that point, the seat still can become ejected.
I, personally think, that people are not aware how often a seatbelt failure can occur and with new safety guidelines with carseats, manufacturers should really look in to the increased safety of seatbelts. That's my arguement, not so much about what seat is best. It depends on everyone's situation.
