Sad Day

When the middle school principal posts pictures of himself on Facebook with students while passing out graduation signs - and he is 1) not wearing a mask and 2) not social distancing. Chat Icon Chat Icon

What kind of example does that set for the student body?

I mean, really. He's ringing the bell, handing out signs and goodie bags, and taking pictures with 8th grade graduates (in some cases with his arm around the student) - and NO mask!

I have zero faith that my child's safety will be a priority for this man come September.

Well if they were okay with it I don't see a problem with it. My kids are in daycare. They don't have masks or social distancing. You can always homeschool in the fall. Many people are exploring that option

Sad Day

If I were a parent of a child graduating at that school, I would probably kindly request that he not touch my child or get too close. But, if these parents didn't have a problem with it, that is their right as parents. I would hope that anyone uncomfortable would have spoken up- their child, their rules.
The reality is, as things progress through reopening, there will be more and more of this. Society is not being as strict as they were back in March & April. It is now up to everyone to weigh their own risk vs benefit.

Sad Day

It's funny, but in the time it took me to eat dinner and write this post, the photos have all been taken down. I guess I'm not the only person who thought it was a bad optic for the district.

I don't disagree with you, it was in poor taste. Which is why I would have asked him to please not touch or get to too close to my child.
I guess I just assumed that the parents of the graduates didn't care, or else they wouldn't have allowed it. I would never allow something that made me feel uncomfortable when it comes to my children's health.
Everywhere I go, kids are out and about. Since we hit Phase 2, my FB is full of pictures of kids at restaurants, hair salons, and today, playgrounds. So I just feel that many are seriously relaxing their social distancing standards, and those who are not comfortable doing so yet have the right to not participate.

People are definitely relaxing but it’s different when a school administrator breaks the rules.

To pick up the items from my kids schools I had to wear A mask and gloves but I touched nothing - so the gloves were a little much.

I’m confused, were your kid(s) graduating in this school? Trying to figure out why it’s so sad and you’re so affected?

We just had a similar experience at our school graduation. Principal wore mask entire graduation, stood a distance from graduate for photo. I guess at the end (I didn’t stay for this part) he removed the mask and got closer pics to some select students. Those pics got posted to FB, they got sent to admin, principal got reprimanded, those parents we’re contacted and asked to remove the photos. All in all, he’s a grown man, in that position, fully knowing the rules stated. He should have never taken off the mask.

Not for anything I wouldn't be removing any photos from my personal Facebook page. If I felt ok about having my kid take a picture with someone who wasn't wearing a mask, that's my right. My kid, my rules. And it's alao my right to post whatever want on my personal social media.
I can see the principal having to remove them because his job told him to. The parents though...they don't have to remove anything.
If it was a select few students I bet the parents specifically asked for those pictures. Maybe they wanted a pic or 2 of their graduation to look back on in the future where there was just some semblance of
normalcy. Everything else has been taken away from these graduates....

Parents can post whatever they want, but the principal represents the school and should be setting an example for the students. If we all want schools to open in September, having a unmasked principal taking photos with students isn’t going to win the community’s confidence. It’s poor judgment.

Agreed. Poor judgment on his part and yes he should be spoken too. But on my private page i will post what I want. These parents made the call that the 30 seconds it took for the picture ro be taken was ok for their kids. Nobody forced them to.
He should have said no, and that's why he was reprimanded as a leader of the school. As a parent it's still my decision through

I can't speak for seaside but she is probably referring to the 15 or 19, can't remember and don't want to look it up, that are having a big upswing in numbers.....mostly the states that didn't have many restriction or any. Florida is one, and that governor is a shit show. They are now starting to pay the price.

Pennsylvania is another. My brother tested positive last week & was very sick. Luckily he is feeling better now. But they were very relaxed from the beginning.

Correct. I assume seaside is referring to any number of states which opened up and are now experiencing big increases in cases—- North Carolina, Florida, Texas, Arizona, South Carolina, Alabama, Arkansas, Alaska, California, Utah, Oregon... take your pick.

Is this really news to people?

But those states have not experienced what we have had during these past months. They are not the epicenter for this virus like we were. It’s logical they’re seeing their numbers go up as they’re starting to open up businesses, etc. Comparing their numbers with ours (in this present time) is not accurate considering we’ve gone over the hump already and are now on decline. Their situation is different than ours.

I am not following your logic.

It is the trend that is the issue, not total numbers. That is not relevant or the point.

The issue is that with the relaxing of the shut down, infection will again spread, increasing outbreaks. It can happen here too, I have no doubt. Beijing is reinstating some lock down measures as they are experiencing a new outbreak from a food market, and a potential second wave.
