Saf-T-Swim birthday party???
DS was just invited to a Saf-T-Swim birthday party. Do the parents go in the pool with them? DS does not swim and I don't know if he would want to go if one of us can't go in the pool with him.

Re: Saf-T-Swim birthday party???
I'm assuming it hasn't changed much from when I went to one a few years ago - yes the parents go in the pool also. They have a lifeguard on duty for the party, but it's recommended that the parents go in the pool w/ their children.

They also have swimmies for all of the kids. They have to make sure you can swim.

Re: Saf-T-Swim birthday party???
just went to one recently... They only had 2 staffers, there were at least 25 kids... and they were playing with the older kids in the water... FOr a 4 year old party, I thought the supervision was lacking. I watched Jacob like a hawk. Parents were allowed in...
The kids had a blast though..

Re: Saf-T-Swim birthday party???
I used to work at Saf-T-Swim, so I will try to help you with the facts.
Two lifegaurds are in the pool area. One stays on deck at all times and the other goes in the pool to 'entertain' the kids. They will give a swim test as the kids get in the water. If they do not pass, they will be given swimmies.
If the child can't even touch the bottom of the pool (Which doesn't normally happen until after the age of 5, but varies.), then the parents SHOULD be in the water with the child, swimmies or not. The lifeguards can't physically MAKE a parent go in, but they will strongly encourage.
Many parents of smaller children even opt to not let their child in the water and they just walk around the pool deck with them, or stay in the 'party room' with them, which has a large window that looks into the pool. The party room is the much safer option.
Lifeguards are to watch every child equally. If they are busy watching a non-swimmer more, then it is unfair to the others.
My feeling is: If your child can't swim and can't touch the bottom, get in with them or don't put them in the pool. Swimmies are not a life saving device.
