Safety of Termite Treatments with a Toddler?

Has anyone looked into the safety of available termite treatments? The idea of putting poison in the soil where my daughter plays makes me nervous...

Here's what mom has to say:

Most termite treatments today on Long Island are done with baiting systems, not poison.
Either Sentricon, which is the brand name that most people are familiar with, or other similar products are used. Chemical treatments alone are a rarity these days. But even in the case of a strictly chemical treatment, the chemicals are pumped under pressure below the foundation of the house and pose no threat to humans or pets. They do not necessarily have a long lasting effect anyway and wear off in a relatively short period of time making the re-application of chemical necessary in the event of a re-infestation of termites.
This is one reason why the new bait systems are preferrable. No poison, no chemicals, no drilling in the home are some of the reasons why they have caught the attention of the homeowner as all treatment is done from the outside.

Thanks so much for your reply. We had two companies give an estimate before we moved in last fall -- one told me about Sentricon and the other looked at me like I was crazy when I asked about it, so I got very confused!! Sentricon seemed like the smarter way to go, so I'm glad to hear another endorsement.
