SAHM vent
I'm so SICK of people asking me when I'm going back to work...not IF I'm going back...WHEN. I know people aren't asking to be mean or intrusive or anything but it makes me feel so guilty. And DH just sits there and waits to hear my response...he agrees that I should be home taking care of our child but every so often he throws it out there about me working part time (mostly b/c we'd be able to save a ton of more money and we want to buy a house). But really...we're not in any kind of financial hardship here, we will still be able to buy a house very soon, and we're still able to save a good amount, so why should I let someone else watch my kid???? Why am I letting everyone make me feel so guilty??
Someone even said once "...surely your not going to sit at home?"
It makes me so sad OK, vent over

Re: SAHM vent
I get it too.... and I did work PT at night and it was such a pain b.c my DH works crazy hours and I would have to call out a lot b.c I had no sitter.
I get such grief b.c I have a master's degree and not working, I hate it.
Hang in there.

Re: SAHM vent
I'm sorry you're going through that!
I've actually been commended more than anything for staying home..I'm surprised people are doing that to you!!
I think its an amazing thing to be home with your kids...not everyone is able to..many who work wish they were home, it's not something to take for granted!
Enjoy it and ignore people. You are doing a great thing!!! I

It's funny, you would think people would realize that you can go back to work someday if you choose...staying at home is temporary most of the time. NOT a wasted degree at all!

Re: SAHM vent
I don't really get that a lot, but I think the times are definitely changing. Once, women were ostracized if they chose to back to work; now it's the opposite...women are ostracized if they choose to stay home. We can't win!!

Re: SAHM vent
you are always going to find someone who has an opinion that you don't want to hear...just ignore them. Dont let anyone make you feel guilty. Be happy that you can stay home and enjoy every second of it! If i could be a SAHM i would in a heartbeat, but we just cant afford it..

ITA! Some people makes comments about me giving up my job to stay at home with Ella but I just roll my eyes and respond to them by saying the greatest job on earth is me being a wonderful mom to her. You will not be able to please everyone.

Re: SAHM vent
So, when ARE you going back to work?
I love the fact that DW is a SAHM, and I don't think she's gotten any grief for it. DW and I talk about her going back to work, but only after the kids are in school, and she thinks she can devote time to work, and not sacrifice anything with the kids (help with bakesales, attend games, pick them up after school, etc.)
It's your life, who is anyone else to judge?

Re: SAHM vent
I was walking DS the other day and a woman stopped me and asked if I could recommend a babysitter. I replied that I wished I could, but we haven't used one. She looked puzzeled and this conversation followed.
Her: "Oh, you have a nanny."
Me: "No, we don't."
H: "Well, who watches him?"
M: "I do. "
H: " Oh, so you don't work. "
M: " No, not outside the home currently."
H: "Oh, that must be nice." That was said with a smirky smile.
Truth is I do work occasionally at the piano bar and have a show getting ready to reopen in a couple of weeks, but I consider myself a SAHM. I am with my DS all day while DH is at work. If I have an audition or rehearsal DS comes with me. So, I guess I'm lucky that I can have the best of both worlds.

Oh God, eff 'em!!! I think it's great that you can stay home. I have a doctorate degree, and believe me...if we could afford for me to not work, I wouldn't!!!
