SAHMs in Commack/Smithtown/ENorthport or surrounding areas...RE: church mommy-groups
Just thought Id mention these incase any SAHMS are in the area and are interested. I know of 2 churches that have mommy groups. You DONT have to be their religion and the prices are minimal.
One meets weekly, catholic church, their "home base" is the church itself, theres a big room where they do crafts, open play, snacks, songs, etc. 10-12noon on thursdays, they also meet at playgrounds (weather permitting) field trips, etc. Around Halloween, they have a costume party, and we're dressing the kids up and taking them to the senior center next door to the church. They also go there on Valentines days to give Valentines to the seniors that so generously gave us trick-or-treats =) In years past, it was a large group, Id say 10-20 moms (not all go every week) so you can imagine how many kids. They split the craft and snack into 2 rooms, open play it one big room. I know some moms hate big crowds so I figured Id mention that.
The cost is $20 for 1st child. $5 each sibling. for the year.(school year)
The other is a Christian church, moms group meets twice a month (every other Tues am). 9:30-11:30 This is more of a "moms inspiring moms" kinda thing. Theres a nursery/childcare room for the kiddies (no charge), and the moms sit in a "baby shower" fashion several tables, and its things like: moms as guest speakers, share their stories or whatever is on the agenda (parenting strategies, keeping fun date nites with hubby, etc.) crafts, and "worksheet" bible related activites, recipe swaps, etc. moms from all walks of life, all ages, all religions,(of course a good many go to that church, but a bunch of us dont, and they dont make you feel any different) and of course discussions and activities center around the bible.
But there are so many hysterical moments where only a mom can understand the stories being shared.
Its quite inspiring and empowering.
They even have evening activity programs for the kids, starting from age 3. The price is a $5 donation on the first day. You get a journal and lots of handouts throughout the year.
One (Tues) is more of a MOMS GROUP, kids are in a playroom/supervised, go to playground, have snacks).
the other (Thurs) is more of a moms/kids playgroup.
FM me if youre interested

these are both still in effect, so if it will get a few moms out of the house and making new friends for them and their kiddies, it's worth bumping it.
