Re: SAHMs...Can we discuss cleaning ladies?
I'd love one, but I really just couldn't do it. I am so anal about everything, that when they finished, I'd be going over everything.... Plus I'd rather spend my money on other things.
The downside is that I've often taken the attitude that it can wait, so very often my house is a little disheveled

Re: SAHMs...Can we discuss cleaning ladies?
I am not a SAHM, but I see absolutely NO reason in the world NOT to have a cleaning lady if you want one and you can afford it!!

Re: SAHMs...Can we discuss cleaning ladies?
I'm a SAHM and have two cleaning ladies come every two weeks. It's nice to never have to mop, clean toliets, showers, bathtubs, etc. On a daily basis I am cleaning, but it's not a big deal.

Re: SAHMs...Can we discuss cleaning ladies?
I have one and feel no guilt about it whatsoever...I hired her when I was 8 months preggo with DD#2 and have had her ever since.
She comes once every other week, and I wish it was once a week.
Of course I straighten up in between and wipe things down too, but I leave the thorough cleanings up to her.
I have a 4 year old and a 3 month old... I would sell all my old gold to keep her...

Re: SAHMs...Can we discuss cleaning ladies?
we have one. It's not to say I don't clean - I have a very active toddler who spills drinks, throws toys and is generally a very messy boy! Plus I have husband and we all know how messy they can be :)
... so I still do Laundry, Bathrooms, Cooking, Cleaning up, Mopping Floors ....
The cleaning lady comes on Friday's and she dusts, scrubs, and sanitizes everything for me. It takes the 'pressure' off me a lot. And on Friday afternoons for about an hour, it look perfect

THe only downside is the clutter sweep the night before she comes
That's the part my DH is psyched for!
Thanks for your thoughts, everyone. You know, the 2nd aspect of this that I'm having a hard time with--besides the failure thing--is the "who does she think she is" factor. You know, "It must be nice to afford to stay at home and have someone clean" That kind of thing...

Just embrace it ... it will give you more time to spend with the girls! You will be less stressed about 'what needs to get done'.

Re: SAHMs...Can we discuss cleaning ladies?
Don't have one . Don't need one. I think I am doing ok job with it so far. DD takes a very long nap(almost 3 hrs) in the afternoon so I have more than enough time to clean + watch tv , read or visit LIF .

Re: SAHMs...Can we discuss cleaning ladies?
We used to have one! Then we fired her because she was horrible and I'd end up having to clean the house after she was gone anyway!
We're in the process of getting a new one.
It was the BEST thing in the world!!!!!

People who think this are just plain jealous, IMO. It really MUST be nice to be able to afford that ... and I think that's great!!
Edit: Or what the PP just said.

Re: SAHMs...Can we discuss cleaning ladies?
I would love a cleaning lady and a landscaper but it's not in the budget. I would pic the landscaper before the cleaning lady though.

Re: SAHMs...Can we discuss cleaning ladies?
I plan on keeping mine once I go on maternity leave for 8 months. I don't feel a bit guilty about it. She only comes once every 2 weeks but I really don't want to take time away from my kids to clean.

Who cares? If you can afford a cleaning lady do it. Who cares that YOU are not doing your own house cleaning?
I would prefer doing that and play with DS. It's free time to do whatever you want.

Edit: Or what the PP just said. I am sorry but I don't think that's being jealous. I think it's more of : Everyone is different and we all have different needs and different circumstances. Some people want a cleaning lady. Some want a babysitter. Some can't afford to have one or the other. For some it's just a waste of money and some can handle it all just fine.

Personally, I was referring to the "who does she think she is" comment...that is not someone saying everyone different - that is generally a jealous and judgemental remark with no disguise.

Re: SAHMs...Can we discuss cleaning ladies?
I have a tiny apartment and if I need time to clean up I can put on a DVD for DS or I can bring him next door to my mom's for a few hours while I clean up. It would be nice to have one if we could afford it but we can't so I'd rather save my money for something else we really need.
