Salad debate- POLL
OK so DH and I are having a debate.... I am making a salad for DD's birthday party to serve with a deli hero and wraps. Will be about 25 adults and 12 kids.
One of us thinks it sould be a plain tossed salad: iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, cuccumbers and croutons.
One of us thinks it should be a bit more gourmet- mixed greens, possibly olives or cheese and red onions for example.
What kind of salad do you like with sandwiches?

I prefer the gourmet ones, but why don't you make a salad bar style set up. Keep everything seperate (lettuce, tom, onions, peppers, olives, cheese, dried fruit, bacon, dressing, etc etc) and let people create there own salads.

Re: Salad debate- POLL
I would choose some sort of gourmet salad only because the heros and wraps already have lettuce and tomato so it would seem a little redundant and you'd want more variety.

Re: Salad debate- POLL
I personally LOVE more gourmet style salads (in fact I made a house favorite this past Christmas EVERYONE loves; maple-Dijon vinegrette, gorgonzola, apples, spiced pecans, mixed greens)
How picky are your eaters?
ETA: or what about an olive, tomato, mozz ball salad, with fresh basil & balsamic?
Or a tomato, corn, avocado, cilantro type salad?
Or pasta salad (Italian inspired with olives, cheeses, roasted red peppers) or Greek inspired (feta, white beans, dill, steamed broccoli or asparagus)

Re: Salad debate- POLL
I like a gourmet salad. It makes it more interesting.
I go through salad phases. At the moment I've been into arugula, roasted pine nuts, Parmesan cheese, and cherry tomatoes. I then make a dressing with fresh lemon juice, EVOO, and salt and pepper. I don't know how gourmet that is, but I'm loving it right now.
A nice mango and avocado salad with mescalun greens is nice too.

I would prefer the "gourmet". I love salad, but for me personally, if the salad was iceberg I wouldn't touch it.

These all sound VERY good ( did I just give it away which side of the debate I am on?! LOL

Re: Salad debate- POLL
I make an easy salad with baby spinach, craisins, walnuts, gorgonzola and red onions to serve at parties and it's always a hit. I use a raspberry vinaigrette salad dressing with that

Re: Salad debate- POLL
I like all different salads and love to add things to them. However, my family is old-school Italian and they want: romain lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes, little red onion, salt/pepper, oil vinegar. NO deviations.
I usually make two small salads, so everyone has a choice & is happy.

Re: Salad debate- POLL
I would make one of each and just make slightly smaller salads. Gourmet salads are yummy but I would be afraid some people wouldn't like it so I would have a plain one handy also.

ITA!!
I think a lot of people like gourmet salads, but with heroes and such a basic salad might go over better. I'd give your guests 2 options... maybe chopped/gourmet or gourmet/pasta salad or something.

Re: Salad debate- POLL
SO I made 2 salads
1) Iceburg lettuce, cherry tomatoes and olives with croutons
2) Baby Spinach with glazed walnuts and dried cranberries
Salad #2 was eaten more than DH's plain old salad.... couldnt wait to point that out to him.
