Salar panels arriving today!
The solar panels are being delivered today.... It will take them a few days to hook everything up, but we should be generating power in a few days! Of course, there is snow/rain forecast for tomorrow and Wednesday am, plus most of next week.....

LIPA is paying for almost half, and there are federal and state rebates the take care of another 7k or so. I'm getting a very large system, so it's going to be around $25k out of pocket.
Smaller setups will be much cheaper, of course.

Congrats! Are they up and running yet?
I dream about getting them and am bookmarking this post for the contact info. DH isn't on board yet. The up-front cost is deterring him.

I'll give you a hint.... it takes a full day to put them up, and they were still in their boxes when I left this morning.
I'm hoping they're up by Friday, but it all depends on the snow and ice at this point.

The ROI is roughly 10 years. They are warranteed for 25 years, so you are guaranteed to make a lot of money off of them. Plus, the ROI is based on LIPA not raising their rates in the next 10 years....
It's definitely a big pill to swallow, but the amount of money I'll be saving (and possibly earning) made it worth while for me.

Re: Salar panels arriving today!
For some strange reason, I don't think they'll be putting up 36 large panels on a 2nd story roof today.....
(I don't have a plain "snow" smilie yet).
There's probably 3 or 4 inches of snow on the roof this morning. Not the best time to be on a roof....

Could you have done a smaller system? or does it go by the size of the house? In other words, if i have one floor, would the size of the systme be smaller than if i had two? or, are you getting a big system for another reason that i am not aware of?
ETA another question... you would obviously run your own electric from the panels, meaning you would have electric heat? or would you still use oil? and ACs are they running off of your own electric too? How long from when these are installed to when you DON'T receive a LIPA bill?

You can run whatever size system you want. If I really wanted to, I could probably add brackets and put more panels on the back side of the roof, two or three on the shed, and even some on ground level, on stands. Or, I could just put 6 panels up. It's very flexible that way. I got a big system because I figured "why not"? If I'm going through the expense of putting them up, I might as well cover the entire roof. If I wind up having a system that is much bigger than I need, I just get bigger checks back from LIPA.
I still have gas heat. It's more efficient, and I don't know if the panels could handle heating a 3000 s/f house on top of everything else.
From the minute they are turned on, they start generating power. I have what is called "Net Metering". That means that if I generate 2k watts in a month, but use 3k watts, I pay for 1k watt. If I generate 2k watts, but use 1.5k watts, LIPA pays me for the extra .5k watts that I generated.
The appliances in the house don't know where the power is coming from. They just tap into the circuits in the house, and the solar panel inverter takes care of managing the power.
Depending on power usage, it's possible that this month could be the last LIPA bill I pay....
