Salary Question: LI v. NYC

I know that, in most instances, salaries on LI are lower than NYC. My question is, how much lower? 10%, 50%???

Re: Salary Question: LI v. NYC

I think it really depends of the career. For me I make more on the island then I would in the city, for DH he makes more in the city than LI.

Edited to say police and teachers are two professions that make more on the island than the city.

Police, teachers, and librarians make more out here. I am not sure about other fields, but you can actually earn quite a bit more money here than in NYC in these fields. Which I think is kind of sad since the work is much more challenging in the city overall.

Re: Salary Question: LI v. NYC

I make more than double my salary in the city than I did in LI.

Re: Salary Question: LI v. NYC

Right now I make the same on LI than I did in the city. However, I don't think that's the norm for my field. If I worked at a hospital or a school doing social work I probably would make the same, but anything else really-----fuggedaboutit!

I interviewed at a place awhile back that offered for a Master's degree and my experience level less than I made when I was brand new to the field with just a BA.

And there was no negotiation.

I was disgusted and insulted.

Especially when they told me it would be part of my job description to transport clients all over LI in my own personal vehicle. Chat Icon

Hells no I don't do that now even.

Re: Salary Question: LI v. NYC

I am in marketing and took a 30-35% cut when I got a job on LI.
