Sales Party Question...

I have never once in my entire almost four thousand years been to one of those "parties" Pampered Chef type thing...but tomorrow, well, tomorrow starts a new age for me. I have been invited to a Jamie Oliver At Home Party...and I have a question.

Seeing as I am going to this lady's house, and she is serving tea and cakes etc...do I have to HAVE TO buy something??

I pretty much figure that I have to buy a little something...how does the etiquette work for this sort of thing???

TIA if you can help!

Re: Sales Party Question...

It is nice to purchase something, but you are not obligated to do so.

Re: Sales Party Question...

Yup, I'm usually suckered into buying something when I go to one of these. Some it's easier to not spend a lot but others......I spent close to $100.00 on earrings at a recent Lia Sophia one. They're nice, but not THAT nice.

Re: Sales Party Question...

I always buy something -- I think it's kind of crap that people say "oh it's not EXPECTED". Of course it's expected, it's the purpose of the party. Chat Icon The person throwing the party is doing so, in order to get as much in sales as possible to get themselves free stuff.

If I'm not a big fan of the stuff, I'll buy something cheap. But if I like the products, I'll buy a couple items.

Re: Sales Party Question...

in the end --- if you buy the cheapest thing possible -- no one but you and the person selling stuff is gonna know?

its not like the hostess is gonna go through the receipts and be like 'omg i can't believe they bought so little!'

Re: Sales Party Question...

See I see on here that it is nice but you really don't have to but I don't agree with that. I will say what I have always heard IRL and my feelings are if you are going to a party where you know they are there to sell something you really have to buy something (not sure I agree that there is a certain amount to spend) but that you should buy something. It is the reason I always refuse to go to those parties - I don't like to feel obligated to buy something. I would never go to a party empty handed so since you generally don't bring something I feel like you should buy something since you know you are attending a party whose sole purpose is to sell things. I have heard people complain that so and so went to their party and didn't buy anything.
