Saline sonogram
I have an appt. for a saline sono in the next few days. In doing a search here some of you and your DH's had to take antibiotics. Why? My RE didn't say anything about antibiotics. Should i be concerned? i left a message for the Dr but they won't call back today.
Did you have pain / discomfort? Do I have to worry about "leakage"? I am going to have to go to work aafter I have it done so I want to be prepared.
TIA

Re: Saline sonogram
The sono itself is slightly uncomfortable, but it's quick. I didn't have any leakage afterwards, but you might want to wear a pad just in case.
My DH and I had to take antibiotics the day before I went in for the sono. I think for me it was to prevent any infection from the sono, and also we both had to take it to prevent passing bacteria back and forth (during sex).

Re: Saline sonogram
I did not take antibiotics for the water sono. There was some mild cramping during anc for a short time after. It was very fast and I had minimal leakage afterwards. A pad will be provided if you need one. HTH!

Re: Saline sonogram
I had a saline sonogram 2 weeks ago. I did take antibiotics this time. When I had one last year with a different doctor, I did't take antibiotics. I guess it depends on the doctor. It is not a big deal at all. I had no pain and no "leakage". It doesn't take very long at all.

Re: Saline sonogram
Thanks all. The nurse actually just called back. She said the Dr. does not usually prescribe antibiotics for this procedure. I guess that is ok

Re: Saline sonogram
I didn't take any abx. I did have plenty of leakage, which included the betadine he used to clean up first
I had cramping later in the evening from it, and some cramping during...but nothing that isn't like PMS.
Good luck

Re: Saline sonogram
I didn't take an antibiotic for it, and it was completely painless and harmless. A little bit of leakage, but no cramping...
