Salma Hayek’s pregnancy has been categorized as a high-risk pregnancy after having been diagnosed with gestational diabetes, which doctors believe to be a result of her excessive weight gain combined with her being 40 years of age.

I am not too surprised, but I wouldn't say the baby is in serious trouble. Lots of women have GD and their babies are fine.
Once again, the media making mountains.....unless there's something else to this story and then I  her baby is OK.....

that's a pretty dramatic interpretation of a fairly common pregnancy issue 
and her weight gain didn't cause the GD, she gained the weight because she is diabetic!!!

Yeah, I have it too and even though I have to go to a high risk doctor, its not earth shattering or anything.

how ridiculous. GD is not usually considered a high risk condition. i had it and was insulin dependent and my baby was perfectly healthy. rarely is the baby at risk or in "serious trouble" if you go to an OB, have your conditioned monitored, and follow doctor's orders. totally & utterly ridiculous headline. it also has nothing to do with gaining a lot of weight during pregnancy.

Exactly-the theory is that the placenta blocks your bodies' ability to process insulin

God, if her baby is in serious trouble, then my baby must be in critical trouble since I am a Type 1 diabetic!!!!!!

I have GD too and my baby is not in serious trouble. GD is very common in PG. She and her baby will be fine.

give me a break..........millions of diabetics have babies and millions more are diag with GD. Serious trouble Unless the baby is 50lbs and her fluid is low it's not a "serious" make your knees buckle emergency, and if it was she would be in the hospital on bedrest hooked to all of the monitors
