Sanity Lost - The Checkerboard Cookie Chronicles
For the family gathering this weekend, my sister and I baked cookies. But these are unlike the decorative cookies I usually make for holidays, they are the funky checkerboard cookies you see in the bakery. They look pretty cool, but require a lot of patience to make. I do not suggest this type of cookie if you have a low frustration tolerance. It is a painstaking process. I nearly lost it a few times because I didn't cut the thickness properly:
The dough: Me layering the dough (Note DH in the background watching Star Wars 3 with little interest in what I am doing): Cross section: Slicing the cookies: Ready for baking: Ready for eating:
We also made Toll House Cookies:

It has to be my outfit and hairstyle right? Or maybe my clean kitchen and dining room area. Or maybe you are wondering how the Classico tomato sauce fits into the recipe.

Re: Sanity Lost - The Checkerboard Cookie Chronicles
They are some damn good cookies I must say, but you have to roll two layers of dough into an 8x12 rectangle 1/4 inch thick and "glue" them together with egg whites. Then refrigerate. Then you have to keep cutting them in strips reversing and gluing and piling and after a while you lose it trying to line them up just so. We were both thinking "Eff this, lets just make some chocolate and some vanilla." Everything had to be measured with a ruler.

Actually - I was impressed by the menorah on the counter as well as the obvious message you're sending of love and racial harmony which symbolizes the relationship that you, I and Chuck share

My sister kept on calling them the "Ebony and Ivory" cookies. I just ate the uneven ones. I love Chuck. I miss Chuck.
ETA: It is ALWAYS Chanukah in my house - DH really knows how to spin my dreidels.

Re: Sanity Lost - The Checkerboard Cookie Chronicles
Awesome job - even if there is a little Classico in them! I would never even attempt a task like that....I'd be making just the Tollhouse!

WOW- that is one impressive feat of baking! I don't even have the patience for those pre trayed Pillsbury fellas.
ETA- I live for checkerboard- so to me, they are the ultimate in style, too.
