Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick Welcome Twins
It's double the joy for Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick, who have welcomed twin girls, according to several local news outlets in Ohio.
A spokesperson for East Ohio Regional Hospital had no comment, but told PEOPLE "everything's good." Reps for the couple could not be reached for comment.
"I'm thrilled for Sarah, Matthew and James Wilkie," Sex and the City costar Kim Cattrall said Tuesday after the babies' birth was reported. "More 'fabulous girls' are joining our SATC family."
The news first broke in April that the couple were adding to their family by having twin daughters with the help of a surrogate mother. Broderick, 47, and Parker, 44, have a son, James Wilkie, 6.
"The entire family is overjoyed," the couple said in a statement at the time.
By May, the big brother was "pretty excited" – and already making a shopping list, according to his father. "He said, 'We have to get a lot of princess toys.' "
Once the pregnancy was announced, friends of the couple said that while the news came as a surprise, it was, in a way, also expected. "They love kids and wanted more," said one friend. "They absolutely love being parents."
Added another close pal: "They are very happy. They've wanted to become parents again for a while."
Parker's Sex and the City costar Mario Cantone told PEOPLE that having daughters was always a dream for Parker, who is known as one of Hollywood's most fashion-savvy stars. "She has definitely wanted to have a girl. She's going to have so much fun bringing the two girls up and teaching them to be young ladies."
Parker has described the surrogate as a strong woman who made "an incredibly generous and gracious choice." Added Parker, "She's made a really big choice to be part of our lives and I think she's an honorable person."

Good for them - they do look like they're good parents, always with their son (even if he does look like they dressed him at the Salvation Army!)
I can't help but wonder why they used a surrogate though...

I assumed it was because of her age. I guess there could be other possible reasons though.

I didn't realize she was 44
it makes sense to me that age could be the reason

I guess they went that route because she can't get pregnant? Or maybe he is challenged? Or both? Either way, I think that's nice for them - I wonder what the names will be.
Stupid question -- but a surrogate is just someone who carries the children, right? The girls will be both Matthew and Sarah's genetics? I saw an Oprah episode once where a couple had a woman in India carry for them since they could not... the baby was theirs, his sperm, her egg, but was just carried by the Indian woman -- so, the baby was in no way Indian or part of the person carrying it. This is the same thing, correct?
It is amazing what they can do with technology.

Not a stupid question. Yes, the surrogate is just the vessel the babies are their biological children (or at least I would assume so since that's generally how it works with surrogates)

True that a surrogate can be just a vessel - but if the issue IS her age, then it's more likely to affect her eggs than it is her actual anatomy/ability to carry the baby.

She may have had unreported complications during or after her pregnancy with James that prevented her from getting pregnant again.
Additionally, I am pretty sure I remember her losing a pregnancy before getting pregnant with James
