Saw my cardiologist today...some GREAT news and some not so great news

First the AWESOME news...
I AM (drum roll please)...

OFFICIALLY OFF MY BETA BLOCKERS!!!!! WOOT WOOT!!!!

I am off of them for the next four weeks. After that, I call the cardiologist to check in. I discussed with him how the beta blockers are negatively affecting my every day life (constant exhaustion, fatigue, dizziness, not loosing any weight even though I am doing WW and working out 1.5 hours 3X a week, etc.) and he agreed to this trial. I am ECSTATIC!!!!! YAY!!!!!!Chat Icon I really feel that if I loose the 40lbs I had since I gave birth to my DD (went on beat blockers when she was 4 months old), my Right Ventricle (AKA: RV) will get better or stay the same. I just feel it in my soul.

Downside: my RV ejection fraction is still in the low 40's when before my surgery it was 55%. BUT it was in the mid 40's after surgery and I would need to take another MRI and transesophageal echocardiogram (TEE) to see the numbers exactly. He did say the beta blockers and lisinopril (another heart med I am on) are prolonging the RV for as long as possible to ward off a transplant. So coming off of them has it's risks. He did say that there was NO guarantee that it would not get worse on the betas so he said the decision was up to me.

I said I would like to roll the dice...and GET MY LIFE BACK! He agreed.

So that's the 6/23/08 update. I can live with this. I really felt like a 90 year old on the betas and I am 33. I am PRAYING that I am able to:

1) have no heart issues while off my betas
2) have my RV function stay the same or get better (to avoid a transplant)
3) loose some weight in the next four weeks (to help take the pressure off my RV)

Any prayers, good vibes, or good thoughts are welcomed & appreciated. Chat Icon

Dina

ETA: for those newbies who do not know the situation... I was born with a rare congenital heart defect (CC-TGA aka L-TGA). Got worse while I was preggo, went on meds when DD was 4 months old & I had to stop BFing. I had open heart surgery last year when my DD was one year old. Prognosis: Heart Transplant in a 5-10 years (maybe less maybe more depending on my Right ventricle). Congenitally Corrected Transposition of the Great Arteries (CCTGA)

Re: Saw my cardiologist today...some GREAT news and some not so great news

That is great news!!!!!!

When I get a chance, I would like to FM you some questions about beta blockers, if you don't mind. I wanted to go off propanolol (inderal) in the summer and the doctor left it up to me. I am on it for "inappropriate sinus tachycardia." But my tachycardia symptoms are triggered in the hot weather so I think I should wait until after summer. I am upset about having to wait.

I don't think I am severe enough for any procedure right now but I want to know what is available, especially if this gets worse. I'll FM you when I gather my thoughts and questions!!! Again, I am glad for your news.

Re: Saw my cardiologist today...some GREAT news and some not so great news

Thanks everyone!

First day off of them and I already have more energy (one had one cup of coffee today instead of two)! I can't go to the gym today b/c Grace is sick BUT I have a rebounder at home & a balance ball that i will work out on later. Chat Icon

I am getting my life, my body, and my energy back and it feels AWESOME!!!!!!!!!Chat Icon

I mean if the RV is gonna cr@p out anyway over time, and my prognosis is a transplant "down the road" ANYWAY, then I am going to live my life without meds and have a great time doing it! No more 33 year old spirit trapped in a body that feels like I am 90 years old. I am going to go surfing this summer too...you can count on it! Chat Icon

ETA: I am claiming my MILF status now and my body will catch up by the end of summer. Chat Icon
