Saw Rock of Ages last night
Off-Broadway show....freaking hilarious!! Constantine from American Idol stars in it. I never expected it to be so damn funny. Every damn cliche from the hair band era is made fun of, I was dying. The guy who plays Stacy Jaxx literally deserves a Tony once they move to Broadway- I have never seen a funnier performance in my life. Then again I really get the humor because I was such a hair band chick!
Go see it!
I can't imagine this show on Broadway though....right now they have you drink up in the lounge pre-show, then continue drinking DURING the show. That's unheard of on Broadway so I'm guessing the party atmosphere might be held back a bit once they go all legit. Just the way they made these familiar 80's songs work in a plot- so freaking hilariously brilliant.
ETA: Just had a memory from high school. I thought up the 'jukebox musical' before it ever hit Broadway! In my creative writing class, I wrote a musical surrounding the songs of Nelson's After the Rain album.

That looks completely HYSTERICAL I might have to plan to see it!!!!! You were like an itty bitty baby in the 80s right???  Its bad but I still prefer that hair band era music to most of what's on the radio these days!!!!!

dave said that he read they are making a movie out of it!!!!!!!

Nope, not at all!! I was a teen!! I was going to concerts at Jones Beach and Nassau Coliseum! I'm in my 30's.

Jess, he can be really obnoxious but he's actually quite good in it...sings great and he's such a dork, it's really funny. He plays the awkward, dorky love interest. Stacee Jaxx is STILL my favorite character. He was like an insane David Lee Roth type. Hysterical. Don't wait to see it until Constantine leaves....just go!!!

okay - but does he give 'the look' at all in the show? that look makes me want to punch him in the face and i may not be restrained - being pregnant and hormonal....i may have to run on stage and punch him...do you know the look i'm talking about??

that looks is aaallll over the place but it's totally in character and it's hysterical. I would swear he was making that look right at me- no joke! We were like 5 rows back and I swear he was staring at me!
Nah I doubt that look is THAT big in the show...he plays a really dopey kid. He's really cute in the show!
